Unicold Hawaii is a cold storage facility that by nature of the business has a high energy demand due to the need to uphold cool internal temperatures for their inventory. CRW completed in partnership with Greenpath Technologies Inc, a solar roofing project that involved the installation of a reflective Sika Sarnafil roof system and a non-penetrating 330kW PV system to lower the facilities’ energy demand thru energy efficient roofing and solar electricity.

Due to the nature of the cold storage facility, the dew point had to be accurately calculated to ensure that there would not be any type of condensation build up either in the roofing system or on the ceiling below, resulting from any type of thermal transference. If the warm air mixes with the cold air then condensation would build up – and any moisture build up in roofing system could result in system failures, etc.

Unicold was a “green” project as it was executed in a technical partnership with Greenpath Technologies Inc. The two entities worked together to develop and install a PV system in unison with a new Cool Roof System and a long-term Power Purchase Agreement providing an efficient turnkey energy solution for Unicold’s needs, thereby reducing their dependency on fossil fuels and lowering their utility and operating costs with a lower rate. The entire project was covered under one warranty for both roofing and PV thus delivering one point of accountability for the client.
